Tenks

Art appreciation is truly a revelation. Art may be simple
for anybody; you just put together something, integrated
them and sure, you will have a creation, an art. But this
misconception is funny because certainly everyone can
make art because of, the different perspective and views
of people but what makes art truly art is its form, its
substance and uniqueness, and its questions. Art is not
merely the physical appearance; cultural background,
history, application and importance within the piece of
art is seen also because it sure have an everlasting effect
on the individuals ready to appreciate it.

As we go for our last week, I am quite sad because I do
enjoy ARTAPRE more than any subjects that I have,
this term. I have subjects that are really boring. I have
questioned my other teachers for their capability to
teach. Some makes unnecessary KWENTO that need
not be discuss in class. The importance is not seen thus
it is too trying hard when you see them relating something
which is not relatable. I just pour what I want to pour
because I am really not satisfied with this term.

I do enjoy a lot, especially in abnormal psychology, art
appreciation and organic chemistry laboratory. What do
these subjects have in common? There are lots of
requirements; papers, projects and reports respectively;
but after doing what must be done, I seriously learn and
I am really happy doing it because not only do I pass a
requirement but I also took relevance and purpose. I am
excited when these teachers discuss their subjects
because you know that they know what they are talking
about. I sincerely and whole-heartedly saw them doing
their works; preparing a lesson plan, using quality time
and most importantly they challenge each and every
student to think, experience, explore, and succeed.

I just want to thank these teachers who truly deserve
an nomination for outstanding teachers. Ms. Seann
Tan-Mansukhani, Ms. Jewel Castro and Mr.

Vincent Ng. Special mention to Ms. Castro and Mr. Ng;
they are first-timers and quite frankly, I prefer to them
more than the Doctors. They may not achieve now, the
experience of these Doctors but they are promising enough
to surpass these so called Doctors. And they prove to be
two of the better teachers for the next generation.
Kudos!! Thank you for not disappointing me this term,
at least I have the experience of a lifetime.

I want to take risk and I want to be continue appreciating
art because it is not boring and it helps me become
creative and innovative. I do learn a lot of new things in
class, specifically in the elements of movies, and the
architecture found in malls because I am very much in
touch with movies and going to malls that I never
admire them today, as I admire them before. I know a
lot of things about them before but I relearn and
distinguish important things today. I am glad that this
term is ending with me having treated this way; I really
enjoyed it and if there is an art appreciation 2, I might
as well be enrolled with it.

Art is common to every nation; different prerogative but
basically universal. It can represent almost everything
from a simple token to a piece of civilization. It is shown
to various mediums that effectively communicate with
people. Common examples are movies, paintings, songs,
dances, architecture. Art also differentiate a generation to
another generation. There are after all a distinct trait that
each generation possess. It is immortal because it can
stand against time. We may depart anytime but they may
stay forever. What is art? Art is the thing that Ms. Castro
presented to us. If you want to know more about art, you
need to know Ms. Jewel Castro first.

As I quoted Ms. Castro: Our goal in this course is
for you to be trained to think both critically and
creatively. Certainly, the ability to articulate one's
opinions and insights as well as the drive to think
out-of-the-box will prove to be useful in real-life
situations, whether personal or professional.
And I think; this goal has been so successful in
every topic we cover.

Quotable Quotes.....

Sometimes,

We put too much passion on the biggest dreams
and priorities in life….

That we fail to love the smallest pleasures from
simple things….

We search so much for the right choices.
For the right paths to walk through,
For the right time and
For the right reasons.

But life is not about searching for the things
that can be found….

It is about letting the unexpected happen….
And finding things you never search for.

Season mall

Architecture at its finest; where in the world would I
find something not created nor formed by the creative
and talented hands of Architects? Is there any
possibility that these naturally occurring creations
were not touched and reconstructed? The world is so
beautiful; any continent, every country has bits and
incredible architecture for everybody to see.
Individual differences do matter, but when beauty
plus appreciation and architecture adds up, it is
surely universal.

We have our creative project #4, and our task is to
predict or change a structure known today and
visualize it in the coming future. Our structure is a
mall, the one thing that we have been discussing
for the past meeting. Sure, it is easy because we do
have a lot of information about it but, we have a hard
time conceptualizing on our future mall.

The Philippines is a tropical country for sure, but
because of global warming, and the sudden change of
the weather, we thought that maybe, in the future, the
Philippines will experience the four seasons. The idea is
for people who is shopping to experience the four
season in a single mall.

It is actually a big, super big mall, with a four equally
different season type, namely, summer, winter, spring,
and autumn. A hotel is found at the center of the mall
surround by the four season types. Each season type has
their own expertise like for summer, they have beaches and
they sell beach outfits while for winter, ice skating, skiing
is predominantly present. For spring, we have a garden, a
paradise, nature-like structure, like a theme park while
for autumn, we were inspired by Bangkok, their wet
market. All season type have the usual stuff found in the
mall where you can eat, relax, chat with your friends,
watch movie, shop, play etc.

It is a dream after all. We want to experience something
that is not that costly, say, we do not have to go to US
or any four seasoned country, just to experience it; like
we can experience it here, in the Philippines.

Architecture has come a long way and it keeps on
improving as time goes by. It helps each and every
citizen of a nation to form a single identity that would
differentiate them from others. The structure will
significantly place a landmark in the society that will
eventually showcase the expertise of individual behind
the project. Architecture helps us remember our ancient
civilization and surely, it will help the future citizens in
understanding and appreciating what the present, learning
from the past is doing to benefit mankind.

Shopping

Sometimes, we buy because we need something, either
a necessity for ourselves or possibly because the product
finally ended its life. Yet, sometimes, we buy because
we want something, either for our own enjoyment or
possibly for a loved one. But the thing is, we buy
because it is a must. Our society has mold us to do
necessary actions when we lack something; we tend to
buy things which are in excess of what is expected. We
are definitely not force to buy, but our instinct say and the
shops do seduce us to at least try their products. If the
product works, it is good news, the shop needs further
experimentation to benefit everybody; if not, the shop is
over, they may close forever.

I am a certified shopaholic; I shop a lot. The mall is not
questioned when I go out. I just do not care about it, I
can go to different malls, what I considered as MALL,
and buy what I want. I usually buy shirts, accessories,
food and things that are uncommon. It is a healing
process for me to shop, it is like a therapy because when
I am at the mall, I always forget all my assignments, my
tests, my projects; I almost always forget everything.
Going to malls, my only purpose is to enjoy and have fun;
I always forget my problems and considered shopping as
a positive reinforcement for my own benefit.

I am also another person when shopping in the mall; I
am more positive and encouraging than the usual. It is
my way of coping because I can not always buy everything
that I wanted and becoming positive and encouraging help
me to accept the fact and think of a better alternative.
Maybe the product does not suits me, or it cost really
expensive or for practical reasons such like having the
same color again and again. My collection of shirts, polo,
collared shirts is more than 100, and still adding. I only
wear one particular shirt per term; I never used the same
shirt at a time in a single term because what is the point of
having more than 100, if you are not maximizing them.

I am also particular with my appearance; I must not wear
the same thing for 2 consecutive days. I like changes
because I am easily bored with same stuff. The appearance
for Monday must be totally different from my appearance
for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays, and of course Friday
from head to toe. I consider myself a FashionistO in some
ways and I believe that it is very helpful to be comfortable
with your clothing, with your physical appearance and with
that to be more comfortable in expressing yourself. Before,
I was not like this, I did not care at all. I used to be fat; be
teased as fat. I was normal as I thought but my surrounding
says the opposite and that trigger me to be different and
follow the industrialized culture that everybody is exercising.

Industrialization does affect each and every one of us. It is a
truly Westernized tradition but we sure have the guts to
adapt it and try to surpass it by globalization. We consume
products that the production is increase so as to equalize, or
possibly gain more capitals for the investors. If the
consumers buying increases, the production of products also
increases thus because of the industrialized way of producing
certain product, with limited time yet massive outcomes, the
investors sure have all the benefits and control over their
products. Industrialization is seen not only in shopping
malls but in our everyday interaction with life. We grow
as we faced the trials we have that sometimes we change
our own image to form a more competitive and ready for
everything attitude. We felt the urged to go to shopping
malls because it is very efficient and cost-effective. But
the problem with industrialization is that it is mostly
evident with the upper social classes compare with the
lower classes. Neither wants to have interaction with
the other class that makes it really difficult to unite the
classes thus force the differentiation of it.

Mall – Ang Modernong Plaza

Ang karanasan ng tradisyon at modernisasyon ay
maaaninag sa pagsuri ng espasyo(space).

-- Rolando Tolentino --

magsimba, magpagamot, magpalaba, magpagupit,
maglaro, mag-abang, magkwentuhan, etc.

ating gagalawan, masaya at kagiliw-giliw;

Masaya tayo kapag nasa mall, lakad dito, lakad doon;
bili dito, bili doon.

mahihirap. Masyado itong halata, kahit sinong mata ang
lilingon at magmamasid.

iba’t ibang naturang kaayusan.

-- Rolando Tolentino --

Nudes

The way we see things is affected
by what we know or what we believe

--John Berger--

I am shock when we discussed this topic because of
the nudity involve in all the painting. I am really
surprise because it is presented in a way that
challenge me as a person and a Christian. I am not
totally against it but at some point during the
discussion, I felt guilty of the nakedness offered to
my eyes; though they are only paintings, I am really
affected by the fact that these paintings were
century-old already but is still being viewed up
until now, possibly for future purposes.

I like the judgment of Paris painting, I also like Vishnu
and Lakshmi painting but the painting that struck me the
most is Adam and Eve because the moment it was
presented to us, I remembered how Christ died for
mankind and why mankind started to be ashamed of their
nakedness. I like it simply because I have something in
mind; it is like I know something about this two individual
and I perceive them as sinners thus to be ashamed is just
the right consequence for this two.

The main difference between naked and nude is obviously,
their spelling! Naked has 5 letters while nude has 4!
Joke!! Joke!!

According to Kenneth Clark, nakedness is simply to be
without clothes while nudity is a form of art. Naked is to
be oneself; when we take a bath, when we poo poo, when
we do sexual intercourse, we are naked. Nude is to be
seen as an object for desires, of sexual acts. Nudity is a
form of dress, as John Berger states it. When we pose,
when we go out, when we are aware that someone or
anyone will notice us. Nudity is not bad after all, as long
as it serves its purpose, it arouses the desires of the
spectators and it excites thus makes a distinct difference
with other painting, unique to several kinds of visual arts.

I am born and raise in the east but majority of my
influences came from the west. I do not know why, it
just happens, maybe for a reason. Comparing the
western tradition of painting with the eastern tradition,
I will definitely go for the eastern tradition because the
painting is painted with equality; the man and woman on
the painting is given the same attention. The activeness
and attraction between them is complemented, they are
not forced. They show the natural way of love-making.

To be fair with the western tradition and why I do not
favor them is because the models are usually female
and they need to be submissive to the spectator and what
the owner wants them to do. It they must seduce, they must
seduce all the way. The fact that they are very much aware
of what they are doing is something I condemned. I just do
not think it is right. Just for these models to give themselves
as sexual desires, actually as sexual objects to the people is
a very shallow explanation to pose. If nudity is for art; I am
into it, I will support it very much but if it is for the money
and fame, I will be happy of course, then I will be quiet
after making a conspiracy theory behind their poses.

Transform the woman into man.
Either in your mind’s eye or
by drawing on the reproduction.
Then notice the violence which
that transformation does.
Not to the image, but to the
assumption of a likely viewer.

--John Berger--

Quotable Quotes.....

At some point,
You have to make a decision.
Boundaries do not keep other people out.
They fence you in.
Life is messy.
That is how we are made.
So, you can waste your life drawing lines.
Or you can live your life crossing them.

Here is what I know:
If you are willing to take the chance,
The view from the other side is spectacular.

Mona Lisa presents: Effectiveness

A simple painting affects the minds and feelings of
normal people. Interpretation varies from different
perspective and cultural background. But more or
less, majority of this masterpiece have a universal
meaning that anybody can think of. It is not
necessarily for one country or place only; it is reasoned
out and discussed to diverse population. The connection
between the painting and the people makes it happen. It
naturally captures the emotion of people thus creative
and innovative styles also challenges anybody to ask.

Mona Lisa is truly a universal icon. She is known all
throughout the continents. The mystery behind her
painting made an impact to the world that it is typical
nowadays to see her(Mona Lisa) in our everyday
activities. She was once a painting but now, she is
everywhere. From architectural perspective to personal
belongings and advertising products, Mona Lisa has
the right attitude and charisma that people loved.

Because of her popularity, so many products used the
concept of Mona Lisa, some actually use the picture
of Mona Lisa to sell their product. A while ago, I
reported my group’s interpretation of Mona Lisa and
we focused on the femininity of her. We associated
Mona Lisa with a feminine wash and a sanitary napkin;
Obviously it is for girls only. We interpreted Mona Lisa
as a typical woman who lives a normal life; whom have
problems and struggles; who enjoys and loves; whom
acts, speaks and thinks as a woman with substance.

She is not even an actress, why does she got such
attention? Any celebrity nor politician nor athletes
need to show off just to have the attention they always
dream about but when it comes to Mona Lisa, it seems
effortless. She is just a mere painting that was actually
painted by the famous Leonardo Da Vinci but what
does this woman have that kept everybody questioning
almost everything about her. She is not beautiful after all.
But the thing that makes her unique from other paintings
is unraveling the mystery behind her painting that from
centuries was still the topic of researchers and historians.

The effectiveness of Mona Lisa as a model is helping
in selling different products around the globe. It is
important to consider that Mona Lisa is also a product
of art. In the same way as Mona Lisa brings back memory
of the past and in some ways help inspire people to change.
Art from the advertisers point of view, is a marketing
strategy to help promote and endorse their respective
products. Art is a medium for anybody who wants to
express their feelings and emotions yet it also influences
the people in every possible way.

Quotable Quotes.....

I hope everybody should get rich and famous and
will have everything they ever dreamed of,
so they will know that it is not the answer.

Mona Lisa

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ever wonder why such masterpiece is so controversial?
Is it her smile? Is it the woman behind the famous painting
of Leonardo Da Vinci? What is the mystery behind the
landscape background? Is she a man? Mona Lisa is truly a
universal icon; from all aspects of the continent, she is
exemplified as a woman of substance and secrecy.
Mona Lisa is Mona Lisa; no questions about that but
What does this painting (Mona Lisa) have that makes it
standout among other known masterpieces in the world?
Probably being a woman painted during the Renaissance
period where men dominates or possibly because of the
questions everybody asks about Mona Lisa.

I know her since grade school but I do not like her. There
is something in her smile that makes me love and hate her.
I like the fact that it is very simple, it is mild and very
pleasing to the eyes. But when you stare at it, it is like a
force smile, you can not predict if she is happy; she is
smiling but the mystery behind her smile is yet to discover.
I just thought it is fake nevertheless that smile can kill you.

I am also afraid to look at her. She is fine, she is regal, she
is poise but at the same time, I think, she is freaky and weird.
When you stare at her, look continuously and seriously on
her eyes and you will see my point. Tilt your head to the
right, then to the left while continuously looking at her. It is
like you change your position with her but she kept on
staring at you. Try sitting to another chair close to your
position and constantly look at her, it is like she is not tired
of looking at you and you feel scared. Creepy actually but
very well made. Only artist like Da Vinci can do that.

Who is Mona Lisa? Many people want to ask. As certain,
Mona is short for Madonna or Madam. While Lisa
supposedly came from Lisa Gherardini Giocondo, a wife of
a wealthy Florentine merchant. Other says that the woman is
Isabella of Aragon, while others say that it is the self-portrait
of Leonardo Da Vinci imagining himself as a woman. We
certainly do not know who is who, we just have different
assumptions that need to be answers by the past. We are
curious of the possible identity but we can not do anything.
We can investigate, we can research but will it truly answer
our question? I do not think so.

I notice the pyramid position as Ms. Castro describe to us,
it is not noticeable at first but when you analyze the
painting, you will clearly see it. I also notice her being
obese. I think her head does not match her upper body.
I do think that her upper body is quiet heavy; she is large.
Maybe the pyramid effect has cause this illusion that I am
looking forward to but I really think that she is big, look at
her hands and see the difference. I am not angry nor
annoyed by her; I just notice it because it is clearly
observable but people are just not aware of it.

Actually, I do not like the color. I think it is not so good;
the color combination is just not right. I think the color is
boring; it is not even exciting. But the background and
Mona Lisa, I think complements each other. The background
is somewhat disorganize, you do not the know the meaning
why it is drawn as a background to the very sophisticated
Mona Lisa. The background is like a puzzle that needs to be
solve first to understand the painting but because Da Vinci
made wonderful connection with the very detailed position
and effortful designing of the painting; it is a painting of
mysteries, of questions and of dilemma afterall.

Simple things already amuse us but complex things amaze
us 10 times better. This painting has a lot to offer. The
curiosity will always be high because expectations will
need further explanations. Questions are ask to acquire new
knowledge and learn new experience. It is a way of living;
we live to ask questions and seek answers. Analyzing a
picture-perfect painting like this will surely open the minds
of any individual on how art is manifested before (during the
Renaissance period) and how it is appreciated now. It is
important to notice what the past has done to mold and guide
the present and even improve art in so many ways.
