Nudes

The way we see things is affected
by what we know or what we believe

--John Berger--

I am shock when we discussed this topic because of
the nudity involve in all the painting. I am really
surprise because it is presented in a way that
challenge me as a person and a Christian. I am not
totally against it but at some point during the
discussion, I felt guilty of the nakedness offered to
my eyes; though they are only paintings, I am really
affected by the fact that these paintings were
century-old already but is still being viewed up
until now, possibly for future purposes.

I like the judgment of Paris painting, I also like Vishnu
and Lakshmi painting but the painting that struck me the
most is Adam and Eve because the moment it was
presented to us, I remembered how Christ died for
mankind and why mankind started to be ashamed of their
nakedness. I like it simply because I have something in
mind; it is like I know something about this two individual
and I perceive them as sinners thus to be ashamed is just
the right consequence for this two.

The main difference between naked and nude is obviously,
their spelling! Naked has 5 letters while nude has 4!
Joke!! Joke!!

According to Kenneth Clark, nakedness is simply to be
without clothes while nudity is a form of art. Naked is to
be oneself; when we take a bath, when we poo poo, when
we do sexual intercourse, we are naked. Nude is to be
seen as an object for desires, of sexual acts. Nudity is a
form of dress, as John Berger states it. When we pose,
when we go out, when we are aware that someone or
anyone will notice us. Nudity is not bad after all, as long
as it serves its purpose, it arouses the desires of the
spectators and it excites thus makes a distinct difference
with other painting, unique to several kinds of visual arts.

I am born and raise in the east but majority of my
influences came from the west. I do not know why, it
just happens, maybe for a reason. Comparing the
western tradition of painting with the eastern tradition,
I will definitely go for the eastern tradition because the
painting is painted with equality; the man and woman on
the painting is given the same attention. The activeness
and attraction between them is complemented, they are
not forced. They show the natural way of love-making.

To be fair with the western tradition and why I do not
favor them is because the models are usually female
and they need to be submissive to the spectator and what
the owner wants them to do. It they must seduce, they must
seduce all the way. The fact that they are very much aware
of what they are doing is something I condemned. I just do
not think it is right. Just for these models to give themselves
as sexual desires, actually as sexual objects to the people is
a very shallow explanation to pose. If nudity is for art; I am
into it, I will support it very much but if it is for the money
and fame, I will be happy of course, then I will be quiet
after making a conspiracy theory behind their poses.

Transform the woman into man.
Either in your mind’s eye or
by drawing on the reproduction.
Then notice the violence which
that transformation does.
Not to the image, but to the
assumption of a likely viewer.

--John Berger--

Quotable Quotes.....

At some point,
You have to make a decision.
Boundaries do not keep other people out.
They fence you in.
Life is messy.
That is how we are made.
So, you can waste your life drawing lines.
Or you can live your life crossing them.

Here is what I know:
If you are willing to take the chance,
The view from the other side is spectacular.

Mona Lisa presents: Effectiveness

A simple painting affects the minds and feelings of
normal people. Interpretation varies from different
perspective and cultural background. But more or
less, majority of this masterpiece have a universal
meaning that anybody can think of. It is not
necessarily for one country or place only; it is reasoned
out and discussed to diverse population. The connection
between the painting and the people makes it happen. It
naturally captures the emotion of people thus creative
and innovative styles also challenges anybody to ask.

Mona Lisa is truly a universal icon. She is known all
throughout the continents. The mystery behind her
painting made an impact to the world that it is typical
nowadays to see her(Mona Lisa) in our everyday
activities. She was once a painting but now, she is
everywhere. From architectural perspective to personal
belongings and advertising products, Mona Lisa has
the right attitude and charisma that people loved.

Because of her popularity, so many products used the
concept of Mona Lisa, some actually use the picture
of Mona Lisa to sell their product. A while ago, I
reported my group’s interpretation of Mona Lisa and
we focused on the femininity of her. We associated
Mona Lisa with a feminine wash and a sanitary napkin;
Obviously it is for girls only. We interpreted Mona Lisa
as a typical woman who lives a normal life; whom have
problems and struggles; who enjoys and loves; whom
acts, speaks and thinks as a woman with substance.

She is not even an actress, why does she got such
attention? Any celebrity nor politician nor athletes
need to show off just to have the attention they always
dream about but when it comes to Mona Lisa, it seems
effortless. She is just a mere painting that was actually
painted by the famous Leonardo Da Vinci but what
does this woman have that kept everybody questioning
almost everything about her. She is not beautiful after all.
But the thing that makes her unique from other paintings
is unraveling the mystery behind her painting that from
centuries was still the topic of researchers and historians.

The effectiveness of Mona Lisa as a model is helping
in selling different products around the globe. It is
important to consider that Mona Lisa is also a product
of art. In the same way as Mona Lisa brings back memory
of the past and in some ways help inspire people to change.
Art from the advertisers point of view, is a marketing
strategy to help promote and endorse their respective
products. Art is a medium for anybody who wants to
express their feelings and emotions yet it also influences
the people in every possible way.

Quotable Quotes.....

I hope everybody should get rich and famous and
will have everything they ever dreamed of,
so they will know that it is not the answer.

Mona Lisa

Ever wonder why such masterpiece is so controversial?
Is it her smile? Is it the woman behind the famous painting
of Leonardo Da Vinci? What is the mystery behind the
landscape background? Is she a man? Mona Lisa is truly a
universal icon; from all aspects of the continent, she is
exemplified as a woman of substance and secrecy.
Mona Lisa is Mona Lisa; no questions about that but
What does this painting (Mona Lisa) have that makes it
standout among other known masterpieces in the world?
Probably being a woman painted during the Renaissance
period where men dominates or possibly because of the
questions everybody asks about Mona Lisa.

I know her since grade school but I do not like her. There
is something in her smile that makes me love and hate her.
I like the fact that it is very simple, it is mild and very
pleasing to the eyes. But when you stare at it, it is like a
force smile, you can not predict if she is happy; she is
smiling but the mystery behind her smile is yet to discover.
I just thought it is fake nevertheless that smile can kill you.

I am also afraid to look at her. She is fine, she is regal, she
is poise but at the same time, I think, she is freaky and weird.
When you stare at her, look continuously and seriously on
her eyes and you will see my point. Tilt your head to the
right, then to the left while continuously looking at her. It is
like you change your position with her but she kept on
staring at you. Try sitting to another chair close to your
position and constantly look at her, it is like she is not tired
of looking at you and you feel scared. Creepy actually but
very well made. Only artist like Da Vinci can do that.

Who is Mona Lisa? Many people want to ask. As certain,
Mona is short for Madonna or Madam. While Lisa
supposedly came from Lisa Gherardini Giocondo, a wife of
a wealthy Florentine merchant. Other says that the woman is
Isabella of Aragon, while others say that it is the self-portrait
of Leonardo Da Vinci imagining himself as a woman. We
certainly do not know who is who, we just have different
assumptions that need to be answers by the past. We are
curious of the possible identity but we can not do anything.
We can investigate, we can research but will it truly answer
our question? I do not think so.

I notice the pyramid position as Ms. Castro describe to us,
it is not noticeable at first but when you analyze the
painting, you will clearly see it. I also notice her being
obese. I think her head does not match her upper body.
I do think that her upper body is quiet heavy; she is large.
Maybe the pyramid effect has cause this illusion that I am
looking forward to but I really think that she is big, look at
her hands and see the difference. I am not angry nor
annoyed by her; I just notice it because it is clearly
observable but people are just not aware of it.

Actually, I do not like the color. I think it is not so good;
the color combination is just not right. I think the color is
boring; it is not even exciting. But the background and
Mona Lisa, I think complements each other. The background
is somewhat disorganize, you do not the know the meaning
why it is drawn as a background to the very sophisticated
Mona Lisa. The background is like a puzzle that needs to be
solve first to understand the painting but because Da Vinci
made wonderful connection with the very detailed position
and effortful designing of the painting; it is a painting of
mysteries, of questions and of dilemma afterall.

Simple things already amuse us but complex things amaze
us 10 times better. This painting has a lot to offer. The
curiosity will always be high because expectations will
need further explanations. Questions are ask to acquire new
knowledge and learn new experience. It is a way of living;
we live to ask questions and seek answers. Analyzing a
picture-perfect painting like this will surely open the minds
of any individual on how art is manifested before (during the
Renaissance period) and how it is appreciated now. It is
important to notice what the past has done to mold and guide
the present and even improve art in so many ways.

If you are intelligent, you are admired.
If you are wealthy, you are envied.
If you are powerful, you are feared.
